- Understand the basics of the Equality Act and know where to go for further information.
- Be aware of different definitions of disability.
- Understand why disability issues matter, and make sure your team and the agencies you work with understand too.
- Understand what your organisation says in its accessibility and inclusiveness policy.
- Involve disabled people in your communications planning.
- Choose a mix of communication channels to reach the maximum number of people.
- Represent disabled people accurately – do not glorify or trivialise them.
- Make sure the channels you choose work for disabled people, for example accessible websites.
- Make sure you understand how to produce communications in accessible formats for disabled people.
- Use Clear English in your communications.
