ODI Accessible Media Player
Get help presenting accessible films online using the Office for Disability Issues Accessible Media Player
The Office for Disability Issues (ODI) Accessible Media Player offers an inclusive online experience for disabled and non-disabled users, whether watching video or listening to a podcast. The player has been tested with people with a range of impairments, and works particularly well for people with learning disabilities. It is the first online media player to pass the RNIB Surf Right accessibility audit.
The player supports:
- customisable subtitles
- audio description
- British Sign Language
- downloadable PDF transcripts.
It also incorporates a powerful search feature capable of supporting a catalogue ranging from a couple of audio files to hundreds of videos.
The player has been developed with the involvement of disabled people from the start and meets the highest level of accessibility.
Bim Egan, Senior Web Access Consultant from the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) said: "RNIB Access Consultancy Service is delighted to award our Surf Right logo to the ODI Media Player. It has been fully assessed by RNIB Web Access Consultancy and found to meet the needs of disabled people.
"Built in Flash, it provides full keyboard support for people who can't use a mouse, is extremely well labelled, making all of it's functions clear to screen reader users, and for those who don't have Flash in their browsers, provides the same information in alternative formats.
"Providing for captions and audio description as well as text transcriptions, this player has been designed to support accessible audio/ video media and we believe it must be the most accessible player available for use on the web."
For more information, or if you would like to use the player on your organisation’s website, contact the ODI Communications Team.
